Still, it does offer a solid off-road ability that others don’t, along with one of the strongest brands in the SUV market.

The high-mounted cockpit is easy to climb into and see out of, and there’s plenty of headroom. The rear view is unobstructed, and the large glass—including a small window on each rear side—also helps minimize blind spots. Additionally, there are numerous seat height adjustments, which should accommodate different types of drivers. Passengers will appreciate the roomy rear seats.
Not only is this Jeep easy to use, but it’s also easy to get to grips with, thanks to the simple Uconnect infotainment system and large, easy-to-use knobs and buttons. However, those with vision problems may want to step up to the larger 8.4-inch infotainment screen.
The smartphone integration with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is standard, and the entry-level infotainment interface is good, even if the icons are on the small side. Still, the Cherokee has one of the smaller trunks in the segment, with 24.6 cubic feet of cargo space. The interior has many storage options for things that people usually bring inside.
The child seat anchors are marked and accessible between the rear seat back and the lower cushion. Likewise, the rear tethers on the seatbacks are easy to access. For those who tow trailers, an optional towing package increases the Cherokee’s towing capacity to a useful maximum of 4,500 pounds.
The Jeep Cherokee uses a 2.4-liter inline engine with a capacity of 180 hp. for the Altitude Lux configuration, but the 2.0-liter engine with a capacity of 270 hp with 295 lb-ft of torque for the Trailhawk off-road offering. Both are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and come standard with all-wheel drive. While we haven’t yet tested either transmission, its noisy 2.0-liter is one horsepower shy of the V-6 offered in last year’s Cherokee. As you would expect from a Jeep, the 2023 Jeep Cherokee rides with a solid feel that makes it feel bigger than its competitors. A relatively stiff suspension setup controls body roll in corners without compromising ride quality. Bumps are absorbed without much reverberation, and the Jeep never floats on the highway. A firm brake pedal breeds composure in panic braking scenarios, and the Cherokee’s 70 mph to zero emergency braking performance is average for its class.
