The 2023 Chrysler Pacifica provides a compelling overall package for families on the go, with impressive options that rival those of high-end luxury vehicles but are packed into the spacious interior of a minivan. The Chrysler Pacifica offers several unique features, including a hybrid system, an Amazon Fire TV-powered passenger entertainment system, and Chrysler’s easy-to-use Stow ‘N Go seats that fold into the floor. With up to 32 miles of electric-only range, the Pacifica Hybrid is a must-have. The range is enough to complete most of our short city errands without visiting the gas station.
The Pacifica comes in seven-passenger and eight-passenger configurations, and there’s no legroom left for anyone. Getting in and out was a breeze for everyone who climbed in during my test drive. The van’s multi-zone climate control meant that the rear seats and front passengers could choose their temperature, separate from the driver. The two front seats can be equipped with heating and ventilation, making it even more comfortable for driving around the country in near-freezing temperatures.
The Pacifica runs Chrysler’s latest UConnect 5 infotainment system, which has reasonably quick response times and an intuitive layout. The dashboard houses a 10.5-inch touchscreen and controls for the climate control and stereo system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard and can be used with either a wired or wireless connection. Alexa is also available as a push-to-talk system for both driver and passenger, and best of all, it recognizes my voice most of the time.

Jeep Wrangler has told a patriotic story from the beginning, drawing inspiration from the Willys military Jeeps that enabled the Allies to win World War II. Since then, the Wrangler has gone civilian and now has few tires in the luxury market in terms of both value and features. A variety of powertrains and two body options give the Wrangler broad appeal. A plug-in hybrid option is also offered, but nothing is distinctly American than the Rubicon 392 with its 470-horsepower V-8 engine. All Wranglers come with four-wheel drive and various off-road features, and most models will take you anywhere as long as you have the right driving skills. On asphalt, the Wrangler shows its shortcomings.
The interior of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler reflects its personality. The exterior is solid and useful, and the interior features a lot more hard plastic than upholstered or soft-padded surfaces. As a result, it looks a little cheap – especially on the higher trims – but feels solid and should hold up well to use over time and with the elements. This is important because the driving experience takes place outdoors.
The Wrangler is available with a standard soft top or an optional hard top; both are reasonably easy to remove. All models also have removable doors and a tilting windshield. The unfortunate trade-off is that the Wrangler’s cabin lets in a lot of wind and road noise even when buckled up, which can be frustrating on long commutes.
The Dodge Durango meets most of the demands of a growing family with a sense of brawn that takes us back to the days of big V8 cars. It’s available with a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 — a 3.6-liter V-6 is standard — and offers one of its class’s most competitive towing capabilities, along with three rows of seating and ample comfort. Frighteningly powerful SRT variants are available for those hungry for more than 360 horsepower from the Hemi, ranging from the 475-horsepower Durango SRT 392 to the supercharged, 710-horsepower Durango SRT Hellcat, both of which are reviewed separately.
Each manufacturer uses a combination of materials, from cheap to high-end. Still, some designs, like the Durango, are better executed than others. Designers prioritized ergonomics, quality of materials, and overall comfort. Still, other competitors offer more space for passengers in the second and third rows—a set of gauges with red and white on a black background facing the driver. The steering wheel has a thick, leather-wrapped rim and a metallic-look finish. The steering-mounted paddle shifters operated on our R/T test car with a satisfying click.
